An approved Uber Vehicle Marketplace rental may include insurance from its rental partner. Uber’s Hertz program says auto insurance, basic maintenance and unlimited miles are included. Its Avis program says eligible weekly rentals include liability insurance, basic maintenance and unlimited miles.
Those partner descriptions are not interchangeable. Uber separately maintains applicable commercial rideshare insurance while the driver is on-app, subject to app status, state and policy terms.
Read the named partner offer
The Hertz and Avis offers do not establish one identical rental insurance policy. Check the actual rental agreement for what the partner includes, who pays a deductible, permitted use and damage responsibility. For qualifying Vehicle Marketplace rentals, Uber’s rideshare comprehensive/collision deductible may be $1,000; do not apply that figure to every partner or loss.
Keep the coverage layers separate
Rental-partner insurance and Uber-maintained commercial rideshare insurance have different roles. The latter depends on whether the driver was waiting for a request, en route or on a trip, with state-specific terms. Neither the rental’s included insurance nor a protection plan automatically overrides the other agreement or covers every personal-use period.
Accidents, maintenance and reporting
After a crash, use Uber’s applicable crash-reporting channel and the rental partner’s accident or roadside process. A car that can still be driven may need partner inspection; if disabled, use the partner’s roadside instructions. An accident or new damage is different from basic maintenance included in an offer. The vehicle may be temporarily taken out of service for review; do not assume a replacement or continuing eligibility. One report may not satisfy every required notice.
Uber says its insurance does not reimburse a rental after a driver’s personally owned car is damaged. Booking a paid Vehicle Marketplace rental is a separate option, not reimbursement under that accident coverage.
Document the rental before you leave. Take dated photos or a quick walk-around video at pickup showing the body, wheels, windshield and interior, including any existing scratches or dents. Take another set when you return or exchange the vehicle. If you keep the same rental for several weeks, periodic photos can give you a clearer record of its condition over time. These records are useful context, not conclusive proof or a guaranteed dispute outcome.
